The
Fancourt Resort and Country Club Estate complex near the Garden Route town of George must be
this country's premier golf resort destination. Its three championship courses (Montagu,
Outeniqua and The Links), augmented by state-of-the art practice and teaching facilities, are
a measure of the finest we have to offer. The Montague Course has been designed and built 10
years ago by the Gary Player Group. |

No
expense has been spared to protect its reputation as our best-conditioned seaside layout. The
cool climate has allowed for the planting of bent grass and the large putting surfaces typify
the best of modern championship design. Although a coastal venue, Montagu is a parkland
course, the direction of play clearly signalled by its tree lines, knife-edge manicuring and
starkly visible bunkering. A great part of its allure is its user-friendliness: a variety of
tees make it widely accessible and the rough isn't overly penal.
The Montagu course is also serenely beautiful. Although a residential estate, the
architecturally- themed dwellings are set well back and away from the playing corridors. And
over the whole presides the ever-present backdrop of the Outeniqua mountains. |
