South Africa's famous
sportsman designed and gave his name to this superb modern resort course, whose fame has been
spread worldwide by the Nedbank Golf Challenge. This course is the premier golf course and a draw
card feature of the lavish Sun City casino, hotel and leisure complex. Everything about this
facility breathes quality, not least the state-of-the art clubhouse, redesigned and renovated in
the latter part of 2000. |

The course is usually
immaculately presented, the kikuyu fairways and bent grass greens contrasting with the more
barren thorn-scrub and aloe-covered hillsides through which the big layout meanders. The
putting surfaces are fast, firm and perfect, and their 'clover-leaf' patterning allows for a
variety of elusive pin positions. The course has many sets of tees and can be enjoyed by
players of very different abilities. The fairways are in the main generally wide, but are
bordered by untended African bushveld; this and the tricky greens constitute the course's main
defences. Water comes into play on five holes, most famously on the par-five 9th with its
island green which is surrounded by waterfalls and artificial rocks. |
