Heidelberg in the west to the Tsitsikamma Forest in the East, the Garden Route is a
necklace of cliffs, bays, beaches and towns, strung along a beautiful coastline. Inland,
lush vegetation gives way to the arid beauty of the Klein Karoo which is home to the
ostrich industry and the famous Cango Caves. The Cango Caves, which are one of the
countries top tourist attractions, are an illuminated wonderland of subterranean beauty,
containing three kilometres of passageways and chambers.
The Knysna Lagoon lies at the heart of the Garden Route and is guarded by the sandstone
'Heads', surrounded by mountains, forests, lakes and the ocean. The Tsitsikamma Forest
National Park which includes the famous Otter Trail is Africa's oldest marine reserve.
